DECEMBER 20 ~ He Came to Give Comfort

By Chris Baxter

John 14:18

I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

Matthew 5:4

Jesus said, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for You are with me. Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 34:18-19

The Lord is near the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

Isaiah 61:1-3

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good new to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the broken- hearted... to comfort all who mourn, to grant those who mourn in Zion, giv- ing them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, the He may be glorified.

My Child,
I came to give you comfort. Your afflictions will not go unnoticed by Me. I too was afflicted, so I understand. Be convinced that I am present with you in your trial, and I will hold your hand each step of the way until you reach the other side. In the meantime, hear me whisper My words of encouragement and peace; let My words of truth bind up your broken heart.

Immanuel

Daily Prayer

In times of trouble...

The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you; for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:9-10

Dear Lord,

May you be our only stronghold! Everything else fails! Help us to release our tight grip on what we think is best and then make a deliberate choice to hold onto your trustworthy promises, especially in difficult times. Cause us to cling to you with hope, both for the present moment and for the future. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
